This is a very short guide ff you or another family member or friend of the family wants to write a Post for this site. The site is locally hosted (see About) by Joel Zdepski, running on WordPress. For the ambitious, you will be given login details and can then upload your story directly. Both J. Mark and Kristin have done this after a short training. Alternatively, you can simply write a short narrative, or even just a bullet list, and we will help edit the content and will promote it to Live after you approve of the text.
Style Guide:
I only have minor guidance with respect to style. We want at least a cover picture for the story, and we can also insert a few pictures into the text. It is not a photo album site however. Pictures are limited in size to < 8Mbytes and common web formats (.jpg, .png, .webp, etc.). The Post template supports eternal links if required.
Most posts take less than 5 minutes to read and that is a good target for a write up. I am hoping these posts are going to be seen by the next generation. A “good” post will have at least one fact or anecdote that someone in my generation may not know and another thing that I may know but the next generation on the in-laws might not know. For example, I was tickled to learn for the first time Uncle Stanley functioned as “Drivers Ed” for all the kids on his block in Stockton, while his forgetting Aunt Amelia in Frenchtown was something I remembered but our Millennial and Gen-Z family will probably not have heard. We will also be writing about a person these younger Z’s have not ever met, so I want to make them come alive through words.
If you want to contribute a Recipe I would request you follow the style already used on this site. Include picture of the finished product, perhaps some setup text followed by an Ingredients section and a Method section. If the method is complex, support it with pictures.
